your safe on your truck here in Texas with no Cat's. They'll just pop the hood to see if everything appares to be there. Just make sure your stock breather is there and fresh air inlet. So if you run a open face filter, just hiot a wrfecking yard and pull breather frtom pretty much any year and it'll pass. What I do to my 78. no troubles with it passing.
All cars and trucks under 6000 pounds GVW manufactured during 1975 model year and later have catalysts. They also have air pumps as a consequence. You need both to make the system work.
So did the F150 just sneak by then? Isn't an F150 6050 pounds GVRW?
I expect that they did add the F-150 for that reason. Particularly since the F-100 might have had some performance reductions with the new emission controls.
They don't even look at my truck, just do the safety check and wave me on.
Wow. I had read (in this forum, of course) that the F150 had been made heavier duty to escape emissions. But I thought they would have made it more than 50 pounds heavier. Sheesh.
The GVRW on my 77 F-150 4x4 is 6150. It has a 300 L6 and is non-catalyst. Also I believe that it was rated for leaded fuel as the gas filler hole is almost large enough to stick your hand in!
Well, ye olde congress were the ones that pulled 6000 pounds out of their collective butt. (And 4650, and 8500.) And really, F-100, F-250, F-350 doesn't sound as good as F-150, F-250, F-350, eh?
And whatever japanese manufacturer that was added two inches to their car or the SUV or whatever to make it a 'truck'.
Somebody makes some rules, and then everybody else games them. Way of the world.
