I have removed the smog equipment off of my 1990 f150 5.8 EFI. Now I am getting a code 44. What I don't understand is that my TAD and TAB solenoids are still hooked up, so the computer should still be reading that these are working right? Or does the computer open and close the thermo valves and read off of the O2 sensor to see if they are working? Other than the codes, it runs fine. Any help would be appreciated.
You know I was thinking about that after I posted that, and the smog pump injects air into the cat which was located behind the O2 sensor. So the O2 sensor shouldn't be able to determine if its working or not. Right or wrong?
The air is injected in two places. Both after the O2 sensor, and into the back of the heads. It can detect the extra O2 when the computer hits the solonoid to send the air to the heads. It shouldn't send air there while the computer is in closed loop though.
