Cheap Fix for Cyl Heads...HELP!!!
Guys, need some advice here. I'm on a tight budget these days. (unemployed). But gotta have me truck running. I have a cracked exhaust valve. Heads were rebuilt not long ago...was hoping i could just replace the valve as long as all the others were OK. Colors look normal. INtake valves are abit carboned...exhaust valves are nice and tan....Whaddya think??? Do I need to do any serious rework here????

Is it cracked or burned? You probably have damage to the valve seat. This could have come from too little clearance in the lifter or a push rod not fully seated in the lifter. I would think if you have it off to at least lap the seat.

Valve is cracked in three places. Got the damage confirmed today. Mechanic at local machine shop took one look and said,"Your screwed!!!" So it looks like the cheap n easy route is out. Need hardened seats. Three out of 4 exh. valves on one side are sunk in. Thanks for your input.
