I've wondered about this since 1963, since I first saw Dr No. James Bond leaves the airport in a '57 Chevy, but when the camera pans to the car's dash, you see a '57 or '58 Ford speedo.
I guess that it must have something to do with "stock footage" movie making, but I'll bet that every car guy that has seen the movie has wondered about that scene.
I know that I must have more important things to think about, but I haven't had my coffee yet. I'll focus later, and no, I do not reside in a rubber room.

There's a whole website devoted to movie mistakes. Can't remember the name, but I'm sure a Yahoo! or Google search will turn it up. I thought I found something in a Kurt Russell film no one else had noticed, but sure enough, that site had it listed!
When Patrick Swayze is fighting the dirt bikers on the cat walk of the tractor-trailer you see the truck moving at a high rate of speed while punches are being thrown, but if you look close enough you will see the air lines to release the trailer brakes isn't hooked up.
My favorite is in White Lightning with Burt Reynolds. They show him racing the cops and shifting gears with a Hurst floor shift but when he gets away and pulls in to his parents farm he puts the car in park (on the column) and takes the key out.
Also ever notice that almost aany car crash ends up exploding? Heck if they hit a curb to hard the car explodes and most of them start in the front area of the car.
can't member the name of the movie. But Arnold was in it. Had a yellow porsche. Porshe got tipped on it's side, was showing damage when they rolled it back over, but later when they drove off in it,there was no damage to that side of the car

Commando... Arnold Schwargenager (however the heck you spell that). Then they flip it over and he and a chick drive off in what appears to be a brand new porshe
The train ride to the city early in Hello Dolly shows an aerial view of the train passing an automotive junk yard. Haven't watched it in years, but that is what stuck out in my memory the most about that movie.
In the movie Heat, Robert DeNiro drives a Cadillac STS. Everybody sees it. But I guess one day during filming the STS was gone, and he's in a Eldorado. But just for a second.
The scene is when they are on the death star. Luke and company are trapped in the Garbage compactor and they show some storm troopers marching down the hallway. One of the stormtroopers is a little taller then the rest and clips his head on a doorway. gives him a pretty good shot to the head. You have to look closely though because it is in the background. If you want to see it you have to get an old original version. The new ones have it edited out.
Movie:
A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the forum.
A small aircraft was seen in the distance just past the power poles that are seen beside a road nearby.

Movie:
Bullitt
Hubcaps came loose but were all on the car (Charger) in the highway chase scene.

Movie: Police Academy
When in the driver training scene the Ltn. makes the black woman cry because of her slow time ,Hightower goes over and flips the police car on its roof and exposes the underside of it, showing that there wasn't an engine in it.
You only see the bell-housing.

Many Movies:
The movie comes alive with the squealing of tires, while the vehicle is driving on dirt.
Just to name a few!!! Being a giant cpu nerd, I can't stand all the mistakes in movies today when it comes to PCs/Macs/Networking/Hacking/etc... Hollywood needs to do their homework!!
In the original Star Wars C3PO and R2D2 get into an escape pod. As it leaves the ship, a couple of guys at a firing panel see it leave the ship. One says "look, there goes another one".
A few minutes later, a soldier reports to Darth Vader "a single escape port was jettisoned during the fighting..."
Ever notice the mistake in the new Gone in 60 seconds. Supposed to be a shelby right? Well if you get over the hacked body and look at the speedo. The speedometer goes to 120. A shelby's goes to 140. (note: I am 90% shure on the numbers there. I have not seen the movie in a long time.)
Bullitt - fastback mustang in the chase scene but at the end when he hit the ditch it was a coupe. Also notice the same volkswagon was almost hit in atleast three differant areas.
Squealing tires on dirt used to make me laugh then I found out it could be done. If the dirt is hard and dry it will squeal.
