Milchman ,I personally take what Ford says and cut it in Half .
I believe they say 60,000 for tranny service . This depends on towing things or plowing snow.I'm a maitenance freak so I change alot more than most people do.
Home mechanics have always told me that on the new Fords change the trans oil every 25k or replace the trans at 100k your choice. Using that advice and synthetic oil I have run two explorers to over 200k with no problems and they both still shifted firm. I don't know about these SD trucks.
Also, at 25k when I changed the fluid, before I went to synthetic the oil always smelled burnt. Neither explorer had a tranny cooler and I only used them for nromal driving.
I would say it depends a lot on what you do with your truck. If you snow plow or tow a lot then I would change it sooner than if you're just running around highway. I changed mine at about 20k when I put my sonnax valve and tri-springs in, and I'll probably do it at 40k too. To me, it's cheap insurance for an expensive piece of hardware. I'm thinking about going with synthetic at the next change to but have to do a little more research.
