Im getting ready to trade my 96 f150 4x4 ext.cab with 250,000 miles(only 800.00 in repairs in 6 years cool huh) for a 02 or 03 150 super crew since the kids are now 14 & 16 and 6' so i need room. I drive 100 miles a day at least to work and back.99% my driveing is hwy. I tow the boat to the lake and river which are only 10 miles away. so which engine do i want for best mpg. the 5.4 or the 4.6
Hi marc2 and welcome to FTE
This question gets asked often in the 97-03 F150 forum which is a little ways further down on the main forum page. If you do some snooping around in there you'll find lots of opinions.
The general consensus seems to be that the 4.6 and 5.4 get pretty similar mileage so you may as well have the extra power in case you ever need it, such as if you buy a heavier trailer or whatever.
