I was just curious about something that I figure some of you may know about. I bought my 1996 EB 351 used almost 3 years ago. It is the first truck I have bought and will hopefully last me a few more years. Anyway, I didn't do enough homework when I was looking for one back then and was curious about any upgrades that had come with it. I believe the previous owner had done some towing with it b/c it came with an aftermarket Brake control unit underneath the drivers cubby hole. I believe I have seen mention of a Towing package that Ford offered when they were still making and selling the Broncos. What extra came in that package, if indeed it was offered? Thanks for any info. I just want to know if my truck came with some extra goodies and what exactly they are when they inevitably break down.
I don't know if it was the same for all years, but the 84 tow package had dual shocks up front, big shocks in the rear, front and rear swaybars, rear trailer wiring and a class 3 reciever.
I know I definitely have the quad shocks in the front. I also think I have trans cooler, but am not sure if it came with that package. A trans cooler is a smaller radiator looking sucker in front of the main radiator correct?
if it has lines that connect it to the lower part of the radiator then thats a transsmission cooler (if not its a air conditioning condesor).
I don't knowif it is part of the tow package or not.
My 88 has no towing package and I have quad shocks and front and rear sway bars. So I think alot just came with that stuff. Although I only have a bumper ball and no brake light connections.
Greystreak had the tow package. Factory quad shocks, tranny cooler, 4 core radiator, front and rear sway bars. GS was a 92 model. Might swap the quad shock bracketry over when I lift the new one. The odd thing is I was pouring over the local Ford truck dealer's microfilm one day (God I love Broadway Ford) and came across an interesting tidbit of info on this subject. Supposedly, the tow package trucks, the HD package trucks, and the standard equipment trucks each had a slightly different fan behind the radiator. Now doing my own little bit of research, I discovered that the new Bronco (93) and Greystreak (92) have what appear to be identical fans. So its still something of a mystery to me.
Is there some code on the door jamb or elsewhere that tells if the truck originally came with the tow package? I have a 95 EB 351. It looks like I've got some extra connections flopping around loose underneath the rear bumper, so not sure what was factory and what was put on by previous owners.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the difference between having the quad shocks and a standard 2 shock setup? Is it just to save money when replacing the shocks or does it provide a better ride?
The place where I got my Bronco said it had the 'towing package'. I've wondered if i actually had it or had I gone to a 'Boss Hog' dealer. But, after this thread I am eased-except for one part. I have the quad shocks, sway bar in front (how do u tell for back?) radiator, and the trailer wiring receiver. My concern is the measley ball hitch on the bumper, isn't Class lll mounted under and attached to the frame? What gives. -BBB
I have a 1996 Bronco dealer brochure and it states-Trailer wiring harness,heavy-duty turn signal flasher, rear stabilizer bar (front standard), quad front and heavy-duty rear shocks, heavy-duty battery-84amp-hr/850CCA(std with Eddie Bauer), and super engine cooling. Thats word for word. By the way you can go to any Ford dealer parts dept and ask for a print out of your Vin. and find out what your Bronco left the factory with(all part # are listed) Large stack of paper!!!! Also helps to know your parts man(or woman)

most of the time the quad shocks handle the same as the single shocks, but they handle much better on loose gravel or washboard roads.
On gravel roads a single shock bronco's front end will start to bounce around and get squirrelly at about 55-60. A quad shock bronco starts to do it at 60-65.
