I have heard ALOT about the pre '77 MCC block if very prone to cracking ion the lifer valley. I have also heard that the CF casting is fine, but I have heard nothing about the DIF casting. Is this block prone to cracking or this block OK like the CF casting.
I am getting ready to rebuild and "beef up" my 400 that has the DIF casting and I don't want to toss a bunch of money into it if I am going to have problems with it.
There are a bunch of posts about the MCC block cracking, do a search on this webpage and search for MCC there are alot of them.
<!also projectbronco has a article about it here >

I've been noticing that my Cleveland block has lots of X's and Y's cast into the lifter valley. I suspect that this was an attempt to 'fix' the cracking tendency. Either that or the Ford gene pool is turning girly.
I can post a picture to my gallery if anybody is interested in seeing these X's and Y's.
That'd be interesting to see. I thought the problem was only on early MCC M-blocks, not clevelands...did they just start casting those on there to be safe?
