just ID'd my heads, D2TE-AA. measured the valves, intake over 2" - looks like 2.09", exhaust 1.56"
here's the problem though, I think I may have messed up the head while trying to remove the valve seals. I'm gonna take the heads to my friend's machine shop and ask them about it. if they are screwed, where can I get a pair???
the valve seals are stuck on there so bad I tried using my air chisel to get them off. I'm not sure if I've messed up the head from using the chisel as a scraper...and I haven't even gotten one seal off yet
Whoa there.. I have to ask what you are doing. The valve seals are little umbrella shaped rubber cups that seal out the oil on the stem. Are you trying to remove the valves? If so, you need to compress the spring and pull the keepers and the retainers out, then everything else will fall out.
I was looking at the little nipple shaped part where the valve stems come through. I figured they were removable because quite a few of them had already broken
just finished pulling the whole motor apart, I've got C7AE-B con rods, pistons are stamped 410, and a 2U crank
Sounds like you were trying to remove the cast iron portion that supports the the valve guides, this should not be done...
Also, it appears you have a standard issue 390 truck motor.
