First off, welcome aboard ! 
Secondly, the proper way to drop the front is with new I-Beams. here is one company version http://www.djmsuspension.com/Product...5F100Parts.htm and there are a few more out there.
Do a search on this site for "lowering a 66". There are several members here who have completed the task, you can check out their gallaries and maybe they will chime in.
