Believe the 65 2x4 and 66 4x4 have same radiator support. Caution, inner fenders may be different, not sure. The 65 V8 radiator should have a rear mount flange. The radiators should be interchangeable thru 76. The issue is matching the mounting flange to the support and the inlet/outlet in correct position. In addition, if radiator sets inside core support be aware if going bigger. If you do not have transmission inlet/outlets may want to consider. Tend to feel it better option if the old can be built up. Would suggest if you buy a replacement you get an exchange or return clause. Speaking from exerience when replaced 6 cylinder radiator, and even took it w/ me.
I replaced the radiator in my '65 at the local radiator shop. They did not have an exact match for a '65. What they were able to concoct was a newer radiator and re-use my side brackets so it would bolt into the '65. Also had to use a hose bushing, I think on the upper hose only as the inlet was smaller than the stock hose. No biggie. Works like a champ. Was told by the rad shop that a lot of the a/m ones are real junk...stick with a name brand. The bill I have reads "RAD407, new radiator 433 GDI" so maybe those numbers will help you. My cost with the side mount swapping was $175.
My problem is I do not have an old radiator, as this truck did not come with one. Was hoping to find a replacement. If not, I need tanks and side brackets so I can get it recored. Just did this on another 65 I have and it ran $175 and was done in 24 hours.
Thanks
Chris
The V8 and 6 cylinder came with either a front or rear mount flange. You should be able to tell by looking at the support in your truck. If there is a 3" to 4" channel the radiator sets into then you will narrow your search to a radiator that will set into the channel with the mounting flange to the rear. They came out w/ a double flange mount in 68 and probably would not work. The largest radiator available would be 26 5/8" wide X 23" tall X 2 5/8" thick. Believe the radiators were interchangeable thru at least 76. Suggest take measurements, look for radiator w/ the mounts, size, and inlet/outlets in correct position. May want to look for a radiator that has the transmission cooling inlet/outlet in event you stick with, or swap to auto. Strongly suggest return policy until you actually have tested the radiator in the support.
Found from limited experience working on these Ford trucks there are the exceptions.

Thanks for the information. My other 65 has a front mount flange making the radiator sit closer to the fan and not inside the opening of the core support. I wonder, do the later model "double flange" radiators fit?
Chris
Don't see how the 2 flange will fit into the radiator channel, but was also mistaken when advised to narrow you search to rear mount. Also misspoke, there was 2 radiator supports in 65, one for the 4X2, and another for the 4X4. Take measurements and give a try. With exchange policy may take couple of trips. Sounds like ddavidv has the best suggestion, get a core and have radiator shop set up to fit your truck.
i checked at all the local auto parts stores for a radiator for my 65 F-100 with 300CI engine. Nobody had anything but 66 up. Prices ran as high as $290 for a 66 radiator. A radiator shop offered the best price for a 66 radiator at $168. I bought that radiator & had to drill some holes in the side brackets to mount it but it works fine.
The my other 65 has a REAR mount radiator and it does sit inside the core support. The fan has a long spacer to make it sit close to the radiator. It is about 26 by 26 in size.
Dave Engelson is correct as far as I can tell, the 65 is a rear mount unit, not a front mount. Sorry for the confusion on my part.
Does anyone have a part number to reference on these other radiators that worked with some modification? Are you using the 66 style?
Reference book i have doesn't list part numbers. It indicates they made the radiator w/ the front mount flange, i just aint never seen one. Have a 65 f100 that had a 300ci and the mounting flange was much larger to compensate for the smaller radiator. Have another 65 with V8 which has a much larger radiator (26 5/8 X 23 X 2 5/8. Both have rear flange mounts. Perhaps the front flange radiators were smaller so they would set inside the support channel? Don't know
Anyhow, found a tag on one of the 65's but assume by now that radiator has been recored at least once. The number on the tag is : 19
0630444
not sure if it means anything.
[QUOTE=daveengelson] Perhaps the front flange radiators were smaller so they would set inside the support channel?
The front mount radiators fit on a core support WITHOUT the flange on the support that extends toward the engine. The core support is flat where the rad mounts. The newer rear mount rad's will not fit in between the core support flange, at least mine won't!!!
There is the option of removing the core support flange or perhaps turning the rad flanges around, I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet.
