Towing question

Well, I don't want to but, I have to ask. You can tow the Bronco II 4WD without disconnecting the driveshaft. Does the tranny have to have fluid in it in order to tow the vehicle?

Manual or electric transfer case?
From what I understand, the oil pump for the transfer case is driven by the output shaft. This means that the transfer case will be lubed, even with the driveshaft connected. However, nothing in this runs the pump for the automatic transmission, so, even if you have ATF in the case, there's nothing pumping it through the transmission.
Manual transfer case has a neutral position that breaks the link between the driveshaft and the transmission. In the case of a manual shift t-case, I think you could tow the BII without disconnecting the driveshaft.
Electric shift transfer case technically has a neutral position, but you have to remove the shift motor to manually find it, and, at that point, it's probably easier to just remove the driveshaft.

It's a manual transfer case. Thanks for the info, mrshorty.
