What part of axle is being measured when they say wms to wms?

WMS stands for wheel mounting surface. The "wms to wms" measurement is the handiest way to spec out axle width in my opinion, since it includes brake component width that is unknown with a flange to flange measurement. It is the measurement from the wheel mounting surface (of course) on one side to the other.
