has anyone encounter people driving without their head lights on during early mornings or night?? twice i all most got into some accidents in one month. the first one was a car load of kids thinking its fun going at hwy speeds the same direction as me...well they got one hell of a scare when my grill was just inches from the cars bumper and seeing the look on them faces when i backed off.i think i was more scared than them i can tell you that much..they did how ever turned their head lights on after that..then there was this guy along side of my truck passing me with no lights and i leaned on the horn and blinked my lights on him to let him know to put them on. well he turned them on just minutes before a police cruiser came around the bend...i should of waited uh???? im thinking of putting bars in front of my truck now just in case my luck runs out.
Not to scare you or anything, but when there is a full moon and I have the road to myself, I normally run without lights. I can spot wildlife on the road with moonlight at much farther distances than with the headlights. If headlights appear either behind or ahead of me, I just turn the lights on until they are out of sight. I know of others that run the same way and this is probably more common than you'd think.
i encounter people like that all the time since im a night person. it doesn't really bother me. i drive with my halogens and headlights on so everyone can see me.
I must admit i have done what alanscott is talking about it's pretty cool just hard to do around here.My problem is with these people that have to drive with a cazillion lights on at night in town i guess they think it's cool to blind everybody on the road:-X23
A few years back i pulled out of my drive early in the morning (4:00AM) and forced a guy off the road. He was running without his headlights said he didn't need them, tht he could see just fine. The only trouble was that no one could see him comming down the road. He got a ticket for driving without lights.
Its fine that you can see without the lights but when someone or something runs or pulls out in front of you, you had better be prepaired to pay.
HEADLIGHTS SHOULD BE ON BEFOR DUSK AND TILL AFTER DAWN.
In heavy snow while comming over the mountain passes I have been known to go to running lights as it is easier to see with than to have the glare of the headlights reflecting off of the snow.
I agree that there are two reasons to have your lights on -
One is to see, but the other is to be seen.
Under some conditions it is best to have the lights on even in daylight, and with all the dents in cars around Norfolk a heavy duty bumper is a good investment also.
yes grey wolf i have to agree with your story here and i was thinking of putting bars in front of the truck to protect my investment...when will get them i dont know just yet but anytime soon..this way i can limp home rather having a tow truck take my truck to who knows where
Good call on the heavy duty bumpers and grill guards. I used to have a grill guard and it saved the front of my truck countless times. I eventually had to get rid of it after a 35 mph collision with a suburban. That thing made it a matter of only hood and grill replacement after the big wreck. All-around a great investment.
