I have a set of re-man D8OE (302) heads from Moores Cylinder heads in Concord NC
I received them with no studs or rockers and I'm wondering what type to put on, I think that it would be a 5/16 stud. What type rocker?...rail, non-rail, pedestal mount? The mounting bosses are tapped.
Would this just be as simple as puting in the 5/16 base stud with the 3/8 top then the rocker components and nut or do I have to have other items like
guide plates and hardened push rods???
I'm new to Fords and any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am not familiar with that head in particular. Just keep up with the performance stuff. It sounds like you may have a set of ped. mount heads. If that is the case, you will not have studs. You have a bolt that goes through the rocker, base, retainer, and bolts into the ped.
So........that would be the non-adjustable type I assume. Since I am running an aftermarket cam, do I need to change the push rod length?
Thanks for the reply...........
Give the company you bought the heads from a call and see what they have done to the heads. I thought originally the 78 heads were press in studs but you say they are threaded, so they may have machined the heads for guideplates or larger studs unless you know for sure its a 5/16" hole, they should know what they have done.
What lift camshaft is it? In most cases you don't need a different pushrod. Good luck
I thought that year head was press in studs also but I did or could not tell that any machining had been done to the peddestal/boss but it's tapped to a 5/16 hole.
The heads I gave as core were the same casting and had pressed studs and cast rockers but I've also seen the same year have ped's and the wide stamped steel rocker.......what gives??
I would say being the heads are reman, they are probably the pedastel mount, maybe that year was the transition year, I am not sure about that, but that is the only thing that would make sense to me. Good luck
