Seems like this has been the worst year ever for my hay fever. Last night I was doing some reading on the subject, and what to my surprise, diesel fumes are #1 on the list of pollutants that make allergies worse. That got me thinking... this is the first spring that I've had my diesel (got it last summer), and it's also been one of the worst allergy seasons I've had in many many years. I've read that the exhaust and emissions of the 7.3 are of course much less than all that put out by the big rigs, but it IS the same stuff that goes into the tank every few days.
Don't know what there is to discuss about this, but if anyone else has had this happen to them, I'd kind of like to know; maybe the diesel I put in my truck really doesn't compare at all to the amount of pollution we're exposed to elsewhere, but it did make some sense.
I havn't experienced any allergy problems but look at it this way, gas exhaust will kill you. I would also recommend NOT standing in front of your exhaust pipe.
Very true about the gas. I was kind of wondering if it was referring to fumes from the diesel fuel itself or fumes from the exhaust.
And by the way, I looked up Texas on the allergy index last night too. It was said your pollen count was "low," if I recall. Up here in Indiana, we're pretty much off the charts right now. You can just sit and watch the pollen floating through the air. And then you have to sneeze... again.
It actually does seem to be true. I was driving home this morning and a fellow Powerstroke owner passed me. While he was passing, I noticed he had a 4 inch pipe. When we got to a stop sign, I rolled down my window to hear it; and as he was taking off some of the exhaust fumes hit me and I sneezed. I couldn't believe it.
