ok im begining to get upset.. My truck's ABS light is still on and I had the brakes services.. They said the ABS works fine and they dont know why the light is on.. Anyone have any idea's? I'm seriously considering trading it in for this 2002 Ford F150 Crew Cab FX4 4wd, V8, Auto, Leather Interior..
There are many things that set an abs light,a bad sensor, a chipped tooth on the sensor ring, was this brake job done at a dealership or a brake shop.the reason I ask is alot of the brake shops dont even have the scanner to correctly diag an abs system.
i tried that before i had the brakes serviced and it didnt work.. its not flashing its steady.. so im wondering if it might fix it.. when i took the truck in for brake service the front disc pads were below the indicator.. is there a sensor that will turn the ABS light on to signal me that my brakes are low? its really buggin me to see it on lol.. i wanted to also know how well the 4.2L really are? i have a 2000 with 35k miles.. but i have the chance to trade it in on a similiar model thats a full 4 door V8 Auto 4wd FX4.. im just curious whether its really worth it lol.. I love my truck.. Curious to know how good the FX4's are.. it looks REALLY short compared to my truck i've noticed..
I was under the impression that if it was an ABS fault, the light would flash a code. On my old Ranger, my ABS light was lit solid when my brake light fuse blew.
There is no sensor to tell you when your pads are low,but if brake material piles up on a sensor or gets packed into a sensor ring that will turn on your abs light and set a default code.If you have already tried to erase this by disconnecting the battery and the light came back on then you will need to have it scanned to find out which part is defective.I have a few ideas, but I would hate to send you all over your truck to find out that we weren`t even close.
ok.. tomorrow i'll do the battery disconnect and give that a try.. hopefully it fixes it.. i appreciate the help triton.. ill post tomorrow and let you know what i found out..
As long as the ABS light is on the ABS is disabled. The brakes will still feel normal but in a panic situation they ABS wont work and wheels will skid.
Roger, the older ones would flash a code but the newer ones just turn the light on and that means to get it scanned and fixed
Does the light come on then go out before you put the truck in gear to move? Then once you start to drive or put your foot on the brake, does the light come on?
yes.. when i turn it on the light comes on, then goes off.. then if i hit the brake it'll come on.. or i can just sit and it will come on.. sometimes i can release the park brake and reset it and the brake light doesnt come on.. im wondering if i have brake lights now lol... i never noticed b/c i always drive with my park lights on even day time.. habit being in the army.. use to having my lights on at all times.. but i do know that my 3rd brake light comes on b/c i see it shining off my toolbox when i hit the brake.. is that attached to the same circuit as the brake lights?
Well the abs light is supposed to come on when you first start your truck and after a couple seconds it goes out, this is to verify that the light bulb works properly,I would say to run up to autozone and see if they can pull any codes for you if you have already disconnected the battery to erase the memory and now the light comes back on.
