Power steering blues
Help!! I've been trying to get my power steering line (pressure line on rack) to seal. I've gone through 4 teflon seals already and my latest one just failed. I've tried torquing the nut at 17 ft/lbs-22 ft/lbs but to no avail. It usually seals for about a couple of weeks, and then lets go. Sometimes the nut gets loose and I have to re-tighten it, but it seems by then the seal is leaking again. I've been thinking of trying some thread seal on it. Can anyone help ?
I did get the parts from a ford dealership, tried the teflon tape, and I just tried the thread sealing compound. I hope it works. I'm beginning to wonder if the mounting area on the rack is out of shape. The rack is new, the previous owner bought it from Canadian tire, also, the power steering line is also new.
Second the above opinions on the rebuilt rack. I had to return one because the threads for one of the fittings had been cross-threaded at some previous time. Pull those plastic covers before leaving the store and check the condition of the threads as well as checking to see the replacement seals are in the box.
Also check inside the hole on the rack. You may have some dirt ot remnants of the previous teflon rings in ther which made it leak in the first place.
Good luck

I checked the condition of the o-ring after I removed the pressure line and found that the o-ring was pressed out of round, indicating a bad connecting flange on the rack. I used some permatex thread sealer and so far the leal seems to have stopped. Thanx for the info!
