My dad has a 2000 F150 Supercab 4.2 5sp
We are planning that when the motor wears out to do an engine swap.
He says he would like to put a 2000 up lightning motor in it Can this be done?
What other motors would you think would make an awsome swap for this truck.
He would like to keep a stick so we might have to also swap trannys
Can't imagine athat a 2000 motor will wear out anytime soon... what do you want to do with the truck after the swap? If it's just a daily driver, replace what it has with a little hotter combo. I would not undertake a complete swap unless I had a LOT to gain and for a reason.
it is going to be in like 5 or 10 years the motor has 100,000 miles on it. We are going to lower it 3" and use the lightning wheels
it will be a daily driver mostlikely
Any suggestions
the reason we might do it because it would be wild
and since i just turned 16 and have swaped a 351w into a Ranger with a t5 and have turned up my 6.9IDI i think it would be fun
The 5.4L engine uses a lot of different stuff than either the 4.2 or 4.6. Bad thing about the big v8 is that you need the chassis harness and gauge cluster to boot.
The 4.6L should get by with a lot less swapping. I remember reading about using a 4.6L harness on a 5.4L, since the 5.4L uses coil-on-plug and the 4.6L uses coil packs, but that bit o' info escapes me right now.
