yea, i know. i'm going to have to get the axles drilled so i can use the same spare on all 4 wheels. other then that i have to find a 15 inch wheel that will fit over those hubs on the 10.25. i already have the axle, so the most expensive part is done.
I put a 10.25 under my 88 F-150. It will bolt right in. The only mod you have to do is have your drive shaft shortened. A 15" rim will fit. I had 15" wagoon wheels on mine.
ok great, good to know. another option i will have to overcome is the bolt pattern. i want t keep the 5.5x5 so i can use the same spare on all 4. i'm probly going to have axles drilled. sound good?
I have never had axles drilled before so I can't help you on that one. I know that some companies make axles with different lug patterns then stock. I believe Randys ring and pinion sells some but can't remember.
The 8.8 was in four wheelers "underated axles" article a few months ago. It's really not that bad, theres a mustang in the ford racing catalog running I believe 1200hp to it, and the tires on a drag car like that arn't small.
well, i'll be sure testing that theory. because i'm gonna blow up that axle before i put my 10.25 in. but the last thing i want do to is be driving home from teh beach in front wheel drive. that wouldnt not be a fun one. but i dont know, i just odnt trust my 8.8 back where while spinning 12.5 inch wide tires w/ all that weight one them. i have alot of traction. and i already broke the spider gears w/ the 302. i'm sorry bout the typos, but its thirsty wednesday in my dorm.
Seems this debate goes around alot, so I'll throw in my two cents worth. I've lunched a 8.8 with alot of upgrades before, so I say why bother? Save your hard earned cash and buy a 1 ton rear cuz you know it's not if the 8.8 breaks but when...
well, i have a 10.25 already, from the truck i got the 460 and zf out of. and after all this, i'm gonna spool it, and have 5.5x5 axles drilled, and through it on the bronco. thankx guys. -Doug-
I've just installed my locker, so I'll let ya know if I blow up the 8.8. Soon it'll have 350hp going to it. I have seen a lotta people with 8.8s and 12.5 wide 35s doin burnouts and generally beating on it. I've beat mine pretty good, but havn't had the locker in long enough to break it. If its a 100k mile stock 8.8, I can see the side/spyder gears going out. Mine started clunking a few weeks ago because the side/spyders were worn that bad, which is why the locker went in. Tightened the drivetrain up a lot, a lot less slack. That initial shock factor is what breaks things.
