Misc 52 questions

I have some questions regarding a 52 Ford pickup with the stock 239 flathead. Non engine related, I am looking into putting a T5 behind the engine. I have an E brake thats right off the rear of the tranny. With the new T5, how would I still keep my e brake any known kits or things to modify will work. On to the engine, I was wondering who has good performance parts. The setup I'm looking for is rebuiling the engine with a stroker kit, new valves, crank, etc. high comp heads, and a supercharger. Anyone with a known good setup please let me know. Also, before I dump too much money in, what are the capabilities in horsepower of an engine with the above parts. I'm just looking for a ballpark figure. Thanks a lot

I'm assuming you are running a stock 51-52 rear end. In answer to the emergency brake question, to keep the truck as original as possible you could use 48-50 e-brake parts which do not use the tranny mounted e-brake or you could change to a later model rear end. If you have any idea of replacing the flathead in the future with a later engine, I'd consider the later model rear end. A 57-72 Ford pickup rear end is practically a bolt in. It would give you a better ratio for highway cruising and the bolt pattern will be the same as what you have now. Also, even stroked and supercharged, there is only so much you can get out of a 239 inch flathead. A stock 351 would run circles around it at less than half the cost of building. As someone once said, there is no substitute for cubic inches.

Since you have a tranny mounted e-brake on your 52, and if it is original to your truck, I assume you have an F-2 or F-3 model and not an F-1, right? In late 51 the F-2 & 3 switched from an axle mounted e-brake to a tranny mounted e-brake. The larger trucks had the tranny mounted e-brake. As Vern said, go with the F-1 axle or an early F-2/3 axle to get the axle mounted e-brakes.

Also the 52 F-2/3 uses a 4.11 or 4.86 rear end vs 3.92 or 4.27 of the F-1. A hi-po engine will be speed limited with these ratios.

I was looking into keeping the original engine intact. So, if anyone knows the potential power that this engine could produce, that would be very helpful. I will be looking into getting a new rearend but for now I am thinking mostly on the engine. Thanks a lot for any input.
