Hello..new to the forum here..love it here already ..I have a 1979 Ford 100.My lights do not work when I put the truck in reverse.I was told that there was a switch somewhere but I have no clue where to find it..I seen some wires next to the linkage underneath on the transmission but nothing that looks like a switch can somebody pllllllllease help me..this has got me goin bonkers
Ensure the bulbs are good and the backup lights are wired correctly. IE no bad sockets. If that is OK then follow the wires to the tranny. This is the Nuetral Safety Switch. It has 2 Bolts holding it on. Loosen the bolts and move the switch up and down. If the backup lights come on then the switch just slipped and you need to adjust it in the reverse position. If that doesn't do it then disconnect the linkage at the switch then remove the 2 small bolts and pull it off. I find it is just easier to replace the unit because 90% of the time it is the switch that is bad. Remember to use safety and block the wheels since you will be under the truck and at some point have the truck in reverse when you are under it. Hope this helps.
If you can't find the switch connected to the tranny, look inside the cab, where the steering column meets the fire wall. It will be mounted on top of the steering column almost up againt the firewall. 2 sets of wires will be connected to the sides of it. Just my 2 cents (and where I found my switch)
I looked on the steering colum goin down to the firewall and found no switch mounted to the colum bummer..gonna try what golden suggest.. thank u guys for your help..if I didnt have to have to get this truck inspected I would not be worrying about it..already put a lot of time and money into it and it comes down to this lousy problem lol..sigh...so close to having this puppy legal...
Well, the quick and dirty way, you can mount a switch in the cab connected to the switch and flip it when they ask for reverse. But personally, I'd replace the switch.
