First of all, I'd like to thank Jeff at Van Bortel Ford for helping me purchase my new F-150 SCrew, Lariat 4X4, 5.4, 3.73LS, Power Leather Captains Chairs (heated), Audiophile, tow package, reverse sensing system, black with arizona beige. Although I'm not flying to NY to pick it up, he helped me negotiate the $34,424 before TT&L. According to VOPC, it's scheduled for production the week of 4/26 (ordered 3/29). Thanks again, Jeff. Now, the question...when it arrives at the dealership, what things should I be looking for before signing the paperwork? Things like distorted windshield, vibrations, bouncing over small bumps, wind noise, etc.? Seems like a couple of months ago, there was a thread saying "take a bright flashlight and spend 2-3 hours scouring every inch before you take it away." I just thought maybe you all might know and would be able to place into one thread so anyone going to pick up a truck might know what to look for. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. (I'm also going to post this in the 2004 F-150 forum since many of them have already gone through this).
Last time I bought a new Ford was a 1997 E-350 XL. It took me about 2 minutes to look at it inside and out. I said somethings like "beautiful that's just what I ordered".
Then we went in and did the paperwork. Didn't even think of test driving it.
I assumed that Ford Quality Control checks everything before a vehicle leaves the factory. Anyway this van has 210,000+ miles on it will probabably break the 300,000 mile mark.
And as taxidriver may now know, that was a wrong assumption. Look at your vehicle from every angle to make sure there's not any small dings in the body. My wife found one when we picked up our truck. And the dealer said "we will fix it". Take your time inspecting it, make sure everything works, like a/c, heated seats, all the wiper functions, all lights, etc.,etc.
The F350 SC I ordered came in with a bent somthing. The bed and cab did not line up correctly, the door and fenders did not line up either. I refused the truck. Do not trust Ford quality control,
No, I talked to Jeff on the phone and he sent me a quote for the truck I wanted. When I went to my local dealer, I told him I wouldn't have any problem flying to NY to get my truck - and then I showed him the quote. To make a long story short - my local dealer sold it to me for $150 more than Jeff was going to. That, in my mind, was a good deal. I don't, however, think I would have gotten that deal without Jeff's quote in hand.
