Hey all you folks. I havent figured out how to load the camper. Dually wheels won't allow you to back up undr her. Is there an easy trick or do I need a crane or a fork lift
I was thinking about putting duals on my truck a while back, but gave up on the idea because of my camper. I was talking to my Dad the other day about it and he said, that's easy just put extensions on the two front jacks to make them wider. Sounds like it would work to me, as long as the camper can take the extra stress. Talk to an RV shop, they probably have a kit for it. It will be $200+ probably, but by then you'll have seen how it's done and could make it yourself at the local hardware store.
this is what you need: http://www.hilltoprv.net/index.asp?P...OD&ProdID=4940
holy smokes! they are kind of pricey! i wish i new that, i just sold my old camper, with those brackets, to a guy without a dually. sorry. i just looked at ebay for you but came up with nothing. good luck.
you can also check with some local camper dealers they make swing out brackets just for putting campers on duallies. when i got my lance the dealer had them available
I was in the rv business for many years and have done the mods you need to load your camper. one way is to buy the hinges, reico is one company that makes them and they are pricey. The other way is to make sure the corners are in good shape and not rotted out then make sure the jack bracket flanges are pointed outward, and if not remount them so they are. Then you get a piece of 1/4" by 12" flat bar about 5" wide. Drill the holes just like the mount bracket have in them on both sides of the new metal and bolt the jack to one side then bolt the other side to the bracket mounted on the camper. You need to be careful because the extra distance from the camper adds more stress to the mountings at the camper. If the camper is older you may have rot in those corners and one way to get an idea about the condition is by removing a screw from the bracket here and there and see if the screw is rusted and when you replace it make sure it grabs and isn't stripped out.
