Overload shocks

Are overload shocks with the outside springs any use? I will be loading once in a while and also pulling 17ft fiberglass camper and ATV on occasion.

The shock mounts are not designed to handle weight like the leaf springs, so these overload shocks are a bad idea IMO. You can add overload springs to the leaf pack almost as easy.. if you think it's necessary. I don't think your loads would exceed the stock suspension however, unless the trailer has a very high tongue weight. If it's more control under load you want consider adding sway bars if the truck doesn't have them already. My truck has both front and rear sway bars, and it makes a big difference on the highway when loaded with 1500lbs(2 motorcycles). I broke a sway bar link on a road trip last summer and really noticed a lot more wander on rutted highways.

i always use them

conanski is correct in the strickest terms, but for what you say you will be hauling, you won't hurt the shock mounts. as they say, springs hold the vehicle up, shocks cushion the ride. i use them on my trucks because i have ladder racks on them and when loaded they sway since the weight is so high centered. i have these type of shocks on all four corners of the truck, you would need to go with Gabriel shocks to do this, since Monroe doesn't make them for the front. the ride will be stiffer, probably a big change at first for you, but either i get used to it, or they break in and then riding in a truck without them seems strange. the current truck is a '90 f-150XLT, 4x4, 5.0, and it sits nice with them in it, not really lifted, just not sagging. i got the Gabriels at Auto Zone for about $125.00 for all 4 of them, while 2 rear from Monroe and 2 of their magnum truck shocks for the front would have run about $200.00 for the set. hope this offers another opinion for you, and is of some help, good luck.

As far as I'm concerned, they should only be used if you're going to exceed the GVWR--and you wouldn't want to do that anyway.
