Running rich???

I believe my truck is running rich due to the fact that there is a lot of carbon build-up on the inside of the tailpipe. Am I correct? If so, I suspect the O2 sensor or the fuel pressure regulator. When you pull the hose of the regulator, if it is bad, will it be distinctly wet from sucking gas or what? I am assuming the truck needs to be off.

You are correct; run the motor a bit, shut it off, and pull the vaccum hose on the fuel pressure regulator off. It should be dry inside if all is well.

I would still test the fuel pressure, just because its not leaking doesn't mean it couldn't be causing high pressure. Have you pull the codes?

You can pull the codes yourself, check out the link in the tech info post on pulling the eec-iv codes, also check out the one on fuel pressure testing.

is the vacuum hose for the fuel pressure regulator the really thin one on top of the regulator? if so, how can you tell if there is gas in it, I can't even see in it.

Ken (or anyone), i pulled the codes today and got several. KOEO self-test:
31 31 1 32 41 63 32 41 63
the book said to clear these codes up and get 11 code for KOEO before proceeding but wait on the Continuous Mem codes for later

31 is for the EGR but that is all I really understand in the definitions
i need tips to clear up this code. any suggestions?

Thanx in advance!!!

The 31 & 32 are EGR codes, the 41 is an O2 code and the 63 is a TPS codes. You should run the pinpoint tests to determine the exact cause, if you need a copy drop me an email. Please remindd me that you need PPT DD, H & DH.
