im swapping out my 3.8 for a 302. i ripped my old one out thinking an inline 6 will go in its place...well.....long story. any how im in need of a carburated 302 and i have not had any luck. i live in south jersey and have been to at least 12 different yards and all i have been able to find are engines that smoke or have coolant or oil all over the eingine. or they smoke or they tap or they are just torn apart. its amazing how someone would want 600 for an engine that has a knock see you later!!!. i even tried to find a cheap old truck with a 302 and just buy the whole truck and rip out the power plant ...no luck yet. anyone have one for sale? near my area? cheap?
You might consider a new short block kit for $500-$600 from any of the major auto parts stores or online outlets. Even if you find a junkyard motor and overhaul it, it will still cost the same more or less. A longblock kit will run a few hundred more. My $0.02
the only thing with that is...i wasnt looking to rebuild the engine that im going to buy. i know this will probly be impossible to find but i still need to try. i also have a small budget. thanks any way stan
in my expierance, junkyards are usually really high priced. you might want to try a few machine shops and ask for core blocks. I have had better luck that way. usually around $100 or less.
you can always buy a block from PAW and have it shipped. I think they are already bored, cam bearings installed, and prepped. shipping will kill you though. since they are in california.
summit used to sell new 5.0 bare blocks. not sure if they still do. Ford racing is always an option to.
$600 for an engine with a knock in it!?!?! You better get out of Jersey to look lol. For that I'd sell ya a whole 80 van with 90,000 miles on a 302 still with all the emmisions stuff on it and working (that you could drive home!) AND I'd fill the back with everything you need to convert that truck to 4 wheel drive!! (I'd let the van go alone for $400). I'm about 90 minutes west of Philly...if you're interested let me know! Have a lot of other 84 parts that I'm willin' to seperate with too lol.
