Maybe I 've just got too much time on my hands but here goes.
My Wiper arms on my 56 are not bent on either the pivot mount or where the blades attach which is causing the blade to drag across and drop below the rubber windsheild gasket. This leads me to believe they are not the correct arms for the truck. So I pick up a couple of my recent custom truck mags to verify my suspicions and I see a bend on some at the mount and some at the blade allowing the blade to rest flush with the rubber seal. Now heres where I got confused... the majority of the trucks I see utilize a "tandem system" where both wipers move in the same direction. My truck and a few others I've noticed have an "opposed system" where the blades are mirroring each other. Why would there be two different set-ups for the same model truck?
I believe if you investigate more you will find the blades operate in tandem on 53-55 models and in 56 they changed to the opposed system. I had a 53 and now a 56 and that is what I have found. The pivots are located differently on the 53-55 than on the 56. I ordered new 56 wiper arms and blades from Mid-Fifty and they lay on the glass correctly. I'm sure Dennis Carpenter and others have the correct blades for the 56.
In my haste to determine the diffrences I just focused on the cowl and not the grille or roof pitch, thus assuming they were 56's. That's why I came here to get straightened out... so much to learn....
