My '95 F-150 with 302 and AODE tranny has been giving me trouble. The overdrive light started flashing so I dropped the pan and changed the fluid and filter. This shut off the light, and the truck seemed to be running fine. But then I drove it home and I got about 20 miles when the light came on again. It seems to shift OK but it lurches when it downshifts. I put a code reader on it and got
538-Insufficient RPM change during KOER Dynamic response test/
(Trucks only) Invalid cylinder balanace test due to throttle movement
during test.
What do these codes mean?
And, is it Okay to drive the truck?
I don't really have much of a choice not to, but I need to know if I'm causing damage. My dad pretty much refuses to have the truck looked at, and I don't have the money for the repairs myself right now. I'd take it to the dealership, but it's no longer under warranty and the GM dealership won't service Ford trannys. My dad says to just drive the truck until it explodes. I don't share this sentiment, because I only got it last December, and it's my only transportation for this summer and to college next year.
