5.4L Missss
I have a 1999 F-150 5.4L 4x4 with 120,000miles on it. The spark plugs have already been changed with new motercraft ones. The truck misses when I accelerate off of a stop sign or when I am in overdrive aroud 50mph and then try to accelerate without it down shifting. I can hear it in my exhaust and just by feeling the whole truck shake. I have it in at the shop right now and the mechanic says he doesn't get any codes with either of his scanners. I believe, and so does the mechanic, that it is a COP but is there any other way to find out which one instead of replacing all of them. Thanks.

Same thing happened to me, but the mechanic at the Ford dealer was able to narrow it down to the number three COP. He told me that it took some time to figure out because the problem was intermittent. They were able to pull a code while driving the vehicle and making it repeat the problem. The scanner was able to narrow it down to either the number three or the number five, and I guess he just got lucky by changing the number three first. Good luck.

A dealer can monitor the power balance of the engine with their WDS scan tool while roadtesting the truck. This is usually the best way to find a miss.
They could also look at Mode 6 data on their scan tool and see if the misfire has shown up there. I'm not sure if other scanners have that capability.
