too many alternators!!!
I own a 1995 E150 conversion van (120,000mi.) and love it to death. just recently the battery ran down so I purchased a new battery and alternator. the change when quite easy but when I started the van back up the battery/AMP light came on and battery meter read very low. so had system tested and they said alternator was bad, swapped it out and still bad. so swapped it for a 3rd time and still same results.
I have read some similar posts and hear talk of a "fusable link" do I have one of these on my van? if so where is it located? and is it possible to purchase a replacement for it?
My owners manual is missing and would like to find out if there is any other reason for that battery/AMP light to be in. this swapping of the same part is getting quite old (though I am getting very fast at it).
please,please help me

when they were tested, they were in the van. after reading prior posts and the help from another reply, I tracked the problem down to a broken lead just behind the fuseable link. a little solder and heat shrink and all systems were go! so the alternators were most likely all good. although during the swap outs we did find that the first one they gave me was in fact the wrong one!
this site was fantastic!!!! it saved me $$$$ and time but more importantly taught my teenage son that some auto repairs can be done at home, and that keeping an eye on your gauges will keep you off the side of he road.
thanks to all who replied!
