I'm getting a 429 to put into a 1977 2wd longbox f-150 Orange. Its got a 351m in it and I don't much care for it besides it could use a rebuild. I know the 429 has same bolt pattern for the c6 so that will work great. I want to race up my truck. I've got a dana 44 and think the gears are 3.54. Would a performer rpm be better for my truck than a performer or competitors product. I plan on buttoning it with performer rpm cam with a healthy carb. 800-750. I want it to be streatable and will be driven often, but PLENTY of power. I would like to put forged pistons in because I"m seriously considering Nitrous. Would a Bore be good? 20-30 over. THANKS. I think 350 hp w a hundred shot of NOS to make 450 would be great. I also have access to a ford 9". Good idea?
if you plan on going for a driveable type of vehicle i would stick with a performer, 700-750 carb w/vacuem secondaries. forged pistons are good if you plan on using a 100-125 shot of NOS, put remember to let the engine warm up a little before you get on it, as for going 20 or 30 over, i would only do so if the bores need it, i personally dont think it makes a huge difference, but its your call i would look into a cam and about a 9-9.5:1 compression ratio on the best heads you can find (cj, scj, or police interceptor would be tops in my boo****ill your willing to lay down some $$$) one more thing to consider would be a coverter w/a higher stall speed, a shift kit, and a tranny cooler, the 9 inch would be good cosidering that your truck isn't that heavy, most f150s came with 9 inchers, plus the 9's can take huge amounts of power, and a locker would make it that much better.
