Just for the heck of it, I decided to see what heads my 86 has on it, I know the engine has been re-built, but, I don't know for sure what has been done.
Anyhow, I found the block casting # without problems, it's a D9, like it should be.
But, on the heads, where the casting numbers should be, there is nothing but a rough casting, the boss is there, but, there is no evidence of numbers ever having been there, and the casting is far too rough for them to have been ground off. Any chance they changed the location of the casting numbers?
I was just curious as to what's different about it, as nearly all gasket sets list fitting 68-85, and then 87.5-up EFI engines, and FelPro lists a seperate headset for 86 and 87 engines.
But, head, valve cover intake and exhaust gaskets all appear to be the same...
Ah well, it doesn't matter all that much, it runs fine, and I won't be tearing into it any time soon hopefully.
Don't know if this will help you at all but my heads , which are 1986 models had the casting numbers on the bottom of the head. There was nothing stamped by the exhaust ports.
My 87 heads have the casting # only on the underside by intake ports. Nothing by the exhaust ports. This makes it kinda hard to check your heads without disassembling half the engine.
