I'm a PSD newbie, and am having a few problems with my truck that my limited knowledge can't sort out. It's a 2002 PSD that I've had since new, and at apx 3000 miles I had to get my Throttle body sensor replaced on warranty. I had the work performed at a non-dealer as the truck wasn't drivable, and had my first servicing done at the same time. I also had a Superchips 80 hp chip installed at the same time. It's been great up until a couple days ago(about 6500 miles). Now however, when I start it up in the morning it stalls and has a ton of trouble re-starting. When it does re-start, it blows a nasty cloud of blue, and runs extremely rough. I've been letting it warm up for at least ten minutes every morning, but to no avail. Once it gets up to full running temp, it's fine for the rest of the day. I just had it going for the first time today, and it did it again, with an even nastier cloud of blue smoke. I just had the oil changed again about 500 miles ago as well, could this have anything to do with it? I'm scared to make the 2 1/2 hour drive to my closest dealer, just in case. Any thoughts?
pull the chip and take it to the dealer.sounds like turbo problems.oil is leaking into the inner cooler when it sits, causing blue smoke.turbo bearings have been failing this year.make sure you put the plastic cover over the computer module when you remove the chip
>if the dealer finds out it has been chipped all warranty
>will be void by the ford enginner.
I heard the FTC ruled against Ford as far as not warranty'ing their products because the consumer used anothers product.
The local Ford dealer here has no problem with the"chip" situation .. I asked the service writer about my warranty and using a chip .. he said no problem.. of course he may change his mind if i have a problem huh ..
Hi Guyoutwest,
I've heard it said some dealers say yes and some say no. I've even heard of dealers that would buy and install a chip for you. I'd play it on the safe side and pull the chip before I had any dealer service work done on the engine.
Just my 2c worth.
you guys are right.my local dealer could care less about the chip.he only warns against a ford enginner voiding warranty claims for that reason.i have lost 3 trannies and i dont need ford pointing at me.my chip is not the problem, but better safe than sorry.my buddy is getting his truck lemon lawed and the pcm cover was modified to fit a chip,no chip in it,and now he is getting the run around.
