Hello dsoto and Welcome to FTE

Was that all the prior owner did? Or did they remove freon and unplug wires to it?

hook up some gauges and check to see if there is anything left in the system, odds are when he took the clutch out it may hvae taken out the shaft seal and lost all the refrigerant.

ok iv'e done some research, it looks like he removed the magnet part of the clutch, and put the pulley back on. the shaft is still there. so what i have to do is remove the pulley, put the magnet back on ,plug it in ,put the pulley back on and in theory should work right!!?? my next question is would this magnet being removed cause damage to the compressor itself? and would the system stay pressurized without the clutch engaging for so long? sorry guys

A couple theories here..
1. Original pulley bearing fried and burned up the clutch and locked up. Rather than spending the funds on a whole new clutch he removed all the orignal components and installed the new pulley just to have proper routing for the drive belt. Possible problems there is that the clutch got so hot that the shaft seal was damaged and wont hold refrigerant and the bearing hub is wallowed and wont hold the bearing securely allowing misalignment to the clutch hub.
2. Compressor locked up and caused the entire clutch assembly to burn up because he allowed it to remain engaged long enough to do so. Likely repair in that scenario would be the entire compressor unit with clutch, orifice, accumulator, orings, and flushing the refrigeration system of contamination.

All hinges of course on whether other lines and/or components are leaking as well.
