Did your truck come with air or not? If it did, it shouldn't be too hard to get it working, you'll just have to replace what needs it. If the truck didn't come with air, you'll have to find all the parts, plus a bigger hole needs to be cut in the firewall. It would be a lot easier if you had a whole truck to take parts from, but still it's quite a job.

Is the clutch engaging when you turn the air on high? If not, make sure the clutch wire is hooked up and getting juice. If thats alright, hook up some gauges and see what the suction and discharge readings are. Post them here and maybe I can help you out some more. If I have lost you up to this point then I recommend taking it to a someone that knows a/c's. Parts can get expensive if you don't know how the system works. It is a relatively easy system to learn but you got to have the tools and they are expensive.

I had mine converted (in the off season) for only $500 at a local shop. It included r124, new compressor, dryer, filter, and hoses. There are several advantages to the conversion not the least of which is a large reduction in vibration/drag.
