I have a 1979 F100 with a 302 and a C4 tranny. I just finally finished putting on a Holley 4160 carb and a Weiand Stealth intake. The truck starts and idles fine. When in gear, if you give it more than half throttle, it stumbles and pops through the carb. It runs smooth otherwise.
I do have an exaust leak at the headers. Would this be causing this problem?
I have a stumble in my acceleration as well, but only when I stop the go button. If I roll the throttle up easy, engine revs like a champ. The truck has a 351M an edelbrock intake and some size of holley 4bl. I bought it this way. Also a different than stk cam(?????), rollers, headers, and crappy exhaust system. No emissions. Just changed the plugs/wires/cap/rotor, and didn't change. Also took carb off and sprayed the entire thing down with carb cleaner to get the gunk off and free up the choke plate. Mixture screws are out two turns.
Another ? How can I ID the carb, to find out what CFM it is?
The Holley 4160 I installed on my 300 l6 does the same!
When cold (first started) I can pull out in first gear and climb the hill OK. If I shift to 2nd, it will pop back also. If the truck is warm it will not do this.
When I installed the carb I had alot of problem with poping back.
I found that the floats were too high and it was too lean. Correcting these made a marked improvement and it only does it cold.
