Freightliners

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and Freightliners came up. We couldnt tell what the difference was between the Classic and the FLD 120SD. Does anyone know of any differences. Thanks.

I don't really pay attention to different Freightliner models, because underneath, they are all basically the same. That said, I checked out their website, and the difference appears to be a different hood, which would obviously move the cab/sleeper back on the frame.

The FLD 120SD can also be had with either a set back or set forward steering axle.

There's probably more differences, but I didn't feel like spending hours looking at their website. Either way I look at them, I think they are both ugly trucks.

I don't care for freightshakers either, they are pretty much the dudge of trucks. Fleets buy them because they are cheeep.

I used to drive a Freightshaker. Freightshaker is right for that junk it had 2000 miles on the truck and the over head console fell down and broke my nose. When i got back to the office I told them ether give me my old Ford LTL 9000 back or I would hit the road so they did I had for 6 mos then they sold the truck and I drove for somebodyelse. The doors suck on thoughs too they do not shut like other trucks. They do not hold there value like Peterbuilt or IH. The Peterbuilt 370 is a great truck.

Freightliner......another POS by the folks at general motors.

We had one where the dash caught on fire while driving, after blinking lights to flash another trucker.

Actually, it's DaimlerChrysler. Or Mercedes Benz. Same company. Not GM.

Some other companies in that same fold: Detroit Diesel, Allison, Western Star and Sterling.

Glad to see all the Freightliner bashing. It's what I've been hearing from some customers I've been talking to. I work for a competitor and love to hear trash about the competition.

Like one guy said here the other day is the frame & drive train is about the same in the big trucks witch I agree but the cabs are not and Frieghtliner is the worse. As far as I am concerned Frieghtliner is a thow away truck. I do not have the same selfasteem driving one of those junks as I do others.

Our frame is different, no one else but our sister company uses it.

We have Volvo trucks, sure are slow, but pretty nice going down the road, and they get decent fuel mileage.... The kenworth that we have is pretty fast, but it doesn't pull as hard, you have to drop a lot of gears to make it up homestake pass.

Nope. Allison is still owned by GM, not DaimlerChrysler.

And Detroit is actually a division of D/C's Italian branch, VM Motori. Confusing world, huh? If you drive a Freightshaker, especially a classic, be sure to carry a set of torx screwdrivers to tighten the interior panels back up with.

I work for Volvo. Our frames are splayed in front to allow our engines to sit deeper in the chassis. This lowers the center of gravity thus improving handling. Mack will begin using our frames later this year.
