MY 6SPEED TRANNY DECIDED IT SHOULD QUIT TODAY IN MINOT,
NORTH DAKOTA!! (450MILES FROM HOME) I WAS HEADING UP A HILL AND
A WICKED xxxxx VIABRATION STARTED IN OVERDRIVE SO I
DOWNSHIFTED INTO 4TH AND IT STOPPED.I THEN DOWNSHIFTED TO 3RD
AND IT RATTLED LIKE xxxx AGAIN FOR THE REST OF THE GEARS. I DROPPED
THE 32FT GOOSENECK AND PULLED INTO THE FORD DEALER TO GET THINGS
CHECKED OUT. THEY TOLD ME MY PILOT BEARING AND INPUT SHAFT WAS xxx SO I HOOKED HER UP AND PULLED HER BACK TO SASKATCHEWAN IN 4TH!! IT IS GOING TO THE HOSPITAL TOMMORROW AND SEE WHAT THE xxxx IS WRONG???? I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE CLUTCH 4 MONTHS AGO AT 175,00KMS AND KNOW WHATEVER EVER IS WRONG AT 220,000KMS!! HAS ANYONE
HAD THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE?? WHY DIDN'T THEY STICK WITH THE 5 SPEEDS THEY WERE TWICE THE TRANNY EXPECT FOR THE LOW GEAR. MY '96 HAD A 5SPEED AND AT 350,000KMS I NEVER HAD A SNIFF OF TROUBLE AND IT IS STILL GOING STRONG WITH OVER 400,000 ON IT!!! I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM PEOPLE WITH 6 SPEEDS TO SEE HOW MUCH THEY HAVE BEEN HAVING????!!!!
HA HA HA!!! guess the dealership forget to tell you, that you CANNOT ABSOLUTLY CANNOT TOW ANYTHING IN OVERDRIVE!!! Especially a gooseneck!!! Ford has the biggest problem by not telling anyone that their weakest link in the trans. The OD clutches are about 4" across meanwhile the low/reverse are 8" across. PLUS there is 2 OD clutches and 6 low/reverse. PLUS another issue is the design of the converter. The converter had alluminum fins in it. they arent brazed on or anything. So when the converter looses a fin, it goes right through the trans and takes the entire trans with it. (aftermarket rebuilers have a update that ford refuses to put in theres.) they actually weld steel fins in the converter and put needle bearings in the converter rather than a brass bushing. PLUS another fault is that the trans is so long and heavy, it flexes and bends in the middle thereby tearing up the center support. Again, aftermarket has made about 7 updates to correct this problem that ford refuses to install. (ford planned obsolesence) meaning, ford wants it to fail so you can come to there repair facility to get screwed in the wallet. So, I guess you are now one of the MANY who are getting taken by the ford dealership in low quality. Hence my screen name. If it wasnt for fords, transmission shops would not be needed. If it wasnt for fords, mechanics in general would be out of work. Look at any reair shop and ask the mechanics, they will tell you what vehicle makes them the most money. If Ford was so good at thier engines, why dont they make there own anymore?
got it apart and the input shaft was NFG and so was he
pilot bearing and maybe some other stuff but my mechanic hasn't got that far yet. he is going to check everything over. What should I check for to see if there is other damage to it??? Thanks,
