Problem with my Honda fourtrax.......
I know this is a Ford Truck forum, but i've had so much luck with truck questions here, i thought i'de try something thats wrong with my wheeler. I was riding out of a mud hole last night, and i goosed the throttle and heard a *crack*. when i got home, after noticing the steering was a little loose, i jacked the front end up only to notice the front right wheel was wobbly. when i inspected the CV joint going into the back of the wheel, it slid in and out slightly(wasn't as firm as the left side). Could my problem be a broken CV joint, or could it just be the bearing went bad? i don't want to bring it too a shop cause they charge wayyyyy to much. it does have the special red valve for the brakes though, so do i need to have them repressurize it after working on it, or will this fix-it-job not harm that...any input is great. Oh...it's a 99' Honda Fourtrax 300 4x4.
P.S....The whole brake drum assembly is loose, and wobbles. but the A-arm is solid adn so is everything else...only things that move is the Drum and the CV joint.
Honda's are notorious for that problem.
The engine's are good but a lot of things aren't.
I think is misses having Sake' put in the fuel tank.
Honda's are expensive when they GO Wrong.
I hope this helps.

You seem like you know and have some mechanical ability to diagnos
things with your honda.
When I was a young, my dad said to me,when something breaks the first thing to look for is a service manual and read every page in that manual
But do not be afraid to take anything apart because of fear.
I spent countless hrs taking things apart and putting them back together
But I always had service manuals for everything I owned and to this day
I still do the same!
My only advice is to get a service manual if you don't wish to pay the high prices that the dealers get to fix them when they break!
Because I can't help you! I'm too old for these new toys now!

HAHA>...i do have some mech. ability. I thought one of those might be the problem, but i didn't have a service manual for it..only the owners manual...and don't think it said anything in there....I was kind of hoping for an explanation on how to go about replacing the bearings too. I'm taking it into my small engines/Auto 2 classes tomorow to take the brake drum off and make sure that it's the bearing. I don't know how to go about removing it and replacing it though...is it just like car/truck bearings? pry em out, then grease the new one and pound it in with a hockey puck? I do hate paying those high prices at fix it shops......thats why i'm doin it myself. thanx for any explanation on how to do this in advance......laterz..
P.S....what were u talking about with the "Sake" in the gas tank????
Something else i forgot to mention. when i pulled the wheel off the drum, i noticed the drum had excesive play, and it didn't look like the rubber seal around the drum was sealing. could that be partial to my problem. if the seal failed, the water got into the brakes and ruined the bearing. so would this mean i need to buy and replace both the drum seal and bearing? I just finished loading it into my trailer to bring to my high school small engines/Auto 2 class....so if i get any responses to this, i'll take them into account while inspecting the brakes/bearings/CV shaft tomorow...thanx.
I wish I read this before I got my Trail Boss stuck today. I got mine in a mud hole back in the weeds. I stopped after a few minutes and got the truck to pull it out using about 50 feet of chains.(I didn't break any thing on mine.) I didn't get any photos of it in the hole. For reason of it really wasn't on the top of my priority list at the moment. Maybe next time. I did get photos of the hole later and the Boss with the mud on it.

Sake is Japanese wine (warmed).
The Japanese are a leader in technology of different types of fuel for cars.
Japan is filled with Sake.
It was a joke
Obviously a bad one at that.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Aight...got it pulled apart in small engines class today. pulled the drum off the backing plate, and 5 bearing beads fell out! lol. the inner shell of the bearing had split, and there were only like 10 beads left in the bearing itself. went and picked a new one up after school. dang thing cost me $60!!!! gonna put it in tomorow.... thats all the problem was. the seal leaked and the bearing went bad. thanx...
Also check the bearings on the other side to see if the seal is good.
Seals ought to be inexpensive, and while you're at it ask at the parts counter if they have a factory shop manual and what it costs. -That's about the only place I think you'll find your manual. At least, a GOOD manual.
Unfortunately, Chiltons and Haynes are not what they once were.

GRRRRR!!!!
Replaced the dang bearing today, and they thing still wobbles. the CV joint is solid now, but the brake drum wobbles. I think they gave me the wrong size bearing. the part of the drum that goes into the bearing, and touches the inner side of it is what is wobbling. i think i lost the receipt too....
So i'm gonna have to take it in i think. i'm tired of screwin with the thing. I work on it in my small engines class, but i won't be there agian till wednesday next week. My dad might just bring it in and have it done at the store. this ticks me off!!!!
