[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Oct-02 AT 12:27 PM (EST)]I've got the supertuner as well. If you run in the standard program mode (45-60 hp depending on year) you don't need a pyrometer. If you are going to be pulling heavy load's its not a bad idea. You can run the offroad program (80 hp) unloaded and as long as you aren't you aren't using it as a race car you should be OK as well. You should really have the downpipe at least for the 80 hp but I would suggest it for both.
If you are towing with the offroad program, you need to have the pyrometer and downpipe.
I am running the downpipe (what a difference that made, you can hear the turbo spool up now as well as cooling effects, etc)
Can't tell you temps yet, just got my dual gauge and haven't installed it yet. Soon.

Nice thing about the pipe is with or without a chip/tuner you'll get more power. This is due to less pressure, thus allowing the turbo to spool quicker.

No offence to bricot, but EVERY diesel truck needs a pyrometer. I've seen stone stock PSD'd hit 1300 towing heavy.
The superchips programmer may or may not "require" the larger exhaust, it depends alot on how far down your right foot goes, but if you have that pyro installed, it will tell you if more exhaust is neccessary.

i agree with cookie....ford should really install a factory pyro and a REAL tranny temp gauge on the powerstrokes...make gauges you first purchase, it aint worth riskin your psd.

No offence taken, I agree its a good idea regardless, just stating what I was told when I was looking at chips and the micro tuner.
Just got mine from Geno's garage, haven't installed it yet.
And a big yes on the downpipe, couldn't hear or tell when my turbo was engaging before I put it in, could hear it whistle up and the butt dyno felt a differnce after I had it installed.

If you like the sound of your turbo with a downpipe, you ought to take the next step, and add a TYMAR intake. It'll allow your engine to breathe without restriction, and the turbo whine is even more noticeable. It's the most free flowing intake you can get. Oh no, something else I need.
How do they compare with the K&N ? Are the replacement filters easy to get?
