What should I do? Heater Core

I have a delema, not a very big one but need help. My heater core crapped out about a month ago and I'm about to replace it. I'm here in the philippines so the labor doesn't cost much. For the heater core to be replaced will cost $100 labor and parts (ford service).

If I understand what this heater core does it basically seperates the heater from the cold (ac) air right? They told me they could just bypass the heater all together and just have only cold air come out. Disable the heater completely. I'm thinking of this option since I live in tropical weather and I will never need to use the heater. Maybe once in a very blue moon.

What should I do? If I bypass the heater that should fix the problem right? What will be the pros and cons? If I do the bypass the thing will my air con get colder? or will it be the same? I'd really like my AC to get colder. Any comments?

Or should I just put it back to original specs?

Thanks

For $100, which is an unbelievably cheap price, I would replace it.

That's $100 you can use for something you NEED!
Definately don't need HEAT in the Phillipines...I would bypass it then you never need to worry about it failing again.

Some things here can be unbelievably cheap. Parts are normally more expensive if imported but labor is much cheaper. An alighment over here cost around 30 bucks. That includes camber even balancing

Anyway if I disable the heater, will my AC get colder? Or will it stay the same? Will I ever have this problem again?

Thanks

Your ac will stay the same.

$100 for the complete job....wow that's cheap inasmuch as the heater core swap is a very time consuming job on these Expys. Are you ever going to bring the truck back to the states? Federal law requires a heater here.

Buzzard never. If I moved to the states I'll just buy one.

Basically it boils down to if I want to keep it original or keep it simple and never have this problem again.

I guess it boils down to whether that 100.00 is a huge load on your budget. Usually if you find extremely cheap prices, the average budget reflects. If it is no problem at all financially I would get it done just for those chilly occasional nights. Ive lived in a large variety of weather conditions around the world in my military career, and there wasnt a place I can remember where it didnt get cold some nights, even in the hottest spots in the world.

Most people here would crawl over broken glass to get a heater core done for 100.00

In all my years I've owned a car in this country I've only used the heater one time. Last oct, not because the weather was to cold but because we swam in next to freezing water in a cave on an out of town trip. We used the heater for a wooping 5 mins to kinda dry us up As far as $100 dollar repair not an issue at all. Just wondering if I should bother having it done. Don't get me wrong it's not cheap to buy things here just so happens this one is. Example buying an new expe cost close to 50 grand for a 4.6 liter engine.
