anyone here own them and if so, what do you think of them? My 25 year Craftsman stacked roll cabinets have heavy tools in them and the drawer guides are finally failing. The Kobalts at Lowes look good, and have the ball bearing guides on the drawers, just wonder if they are as good as they look , and are worth the money. thanks
I have the 4 drawer ball bearing cabinet. LOVE IT!! Got it for $160. Every bit as good as craftsman for a fraction of the cost. BTW-I love Craftsman. I swear by they for hand tools. But the Kobalt tool chests and cabinets rock. Also, they look great and don't have that lift latch BS that breaks too easily.
I went on line to Sears and compared their almost identical 13 drawer ( has 2 additional small drawers that are not very funtional for me) 40 in wide base unit , to Kobalts 11 drawer 40 in wide base unit, and wow, the Craftsman at 799.00 was 199 bucks higher than Kobalts. The only thing on the Kobalts that I could find that bothered me a little was the plastic drawer stops, looked like a weak link. One would have to be careful about pulling them out to hard and often, other than that , they look like a hell of a tool box.
There arent alot of toolboxes made in america, except for the high dollar snap-on and mac stuff, most are made by waterloo. including craftsman boxes, so go for price and personal preference, if you use it everyday, spend the money on the good stuff.
I just bought one. The 6 drawer and it's very nice. It's taller, cheaper and holds more than the compareable Craftsman rollaway I was looking at. Ball bearing drawers that roll nice and smooth.
Kobalt tool cabinets are made by Waterloo. It's a nice and inexpensive.
My 20 year old Craftsman roll cabinets I have look exactly like the red Waterloos that Lowes carry... Hmmm, a good copy, or was Waterloo building Craftman mechanic boxes for Sears years ago ? just my observation,
