You are right about that. Not much of a comparison, but I had a 66 LTD with factory 390 4v shoebox 4 barrel and 2.85 rear pumpkin with a C6. Drove it from Pennsylvania to Charlotte NC and got 19 mpg. These trucks aren't anywhere near aerodynamic by any means, so that is a factor. But, if you keep the carb/engine in tune and keep your foot off the floor cab, you can do well.
