I have a 1985 F250 with a 460 and duraspark II ignition. The truck has started to run rough at idle and surge in moderate acceleration.I have replaced the cap, rotors, plugs and pickup module. Can the Duraspark box or the coil cause this?
Possible but what type of surge? I would check tranny fluid and fuel system. After that if it leads to the Duraspark or coil just have to swap them out.
The first thing I would check is the EGR valve. It could have a piece of carbon caught in it, causing it to leak. You can make a temporary block off gasket to see if the problem goes away.
Check all your vacuum lines for leaks.
How long has it been since the carb has been overhauled? Has this truck set around for any period of time? It probably has a holley 4bbl which could stand rebuild.
