Well went to the store and came home with a new Kenwood head unit as seen in link below. Now I just have to find the time to figure out how to remove the old one an install the new one. I'll post pics in about 4 weeks After I get back from Texas Just thought I would share
On edit: I didn't even pay half of what it retails for http://www.kenwoodusa.com/product/pr...productId=2557
Nice choice, my friend has an excelon and loves it.
Word of advice, the stock units are really hard to get out, so if you at all have the money have someone put it in for you, it can get pretty frustrating.
They were having a sale on Kenwoods at the base exchange they had the one i bought for 799 and they also had the kvt815 for 999. I did not realize how much i saved until I got home and was IMing my brother, he is the one that pointed out the savings.
Connect,
I would have some else do it but being I'm in Germany and don't speak the lingo, plus the size of my truck (won't fit in most of these shops ) always scares them off
The install is easy. Make sure you have the Ford removal tool and pig tail for the wiring. Getting the old one out can be tricky but just take you time and rock it back and forth. The best part is you don't have to pull the dash or anything like that. I had the pig tail to plug it into the factory harness and crimped it together in the house so all I had to do was plug and slide it in once I wiggled the factory one out.
but, are you planning on modding anyhting to fit a double din unit??? i believe ford is, and has been using a din and a half size since ~99..... i have never measured mine, but i think only generic motors, and dog use double din.

sheckit out.
good luck!
I was wondering that also. Crutchfield says only single din or din and a half will fit in the SD and other Fords at least that is what their sites says. All of my GMs were din and a half. So was my one dodge dakota. I hope it will work out without to much modification or none at all. The Ford unit is a bit bigger than the factory GM or dodge units I had. But no idea if the rest of the dash in the Ford will let a double din fit.
Metra makes the best kit for your truck,i carry all brands of kits and harnesses where i work and metra is the way to go ,kit fills opening ,easy install ,match up the colors on plug kit to radio half ,and any wires that do not match up color wise on each end of the plugs, do not use.
Well i went out to the truck today and took the outer ring thats goes on the new unit it is matches up to the outer edge of my existing unit(cd/cassette OEM). I'll keep ya'll posted
So you must be in Germany alot to have your own SD their, and yet you don't speak the lingo? Hehe I was just wondering. Someone tried to steal my 6 disc out of my truck and they couldn't get it out, lucky for me I guess insurance paid for it to be replaced. But they couldnt even get it 1/4" out from the dash and they had a good 20 minutes at it.
