I am thinking about replacing my stock fan on my 69 F250 and replacing it with a flex fan. The only reason I am considering doing this is just for fun because I was told that the noise it makes kinda sounds like the timing gear drives. Is this true?? If this is true, which flex fan do you recommend?

I personally don't like the sound of a flex fan as it sorta flutters and masks the cool exhaust sound
if a flex fan is masking the exhaust sound you need more exhaust (imo) ive never heard my fan of course i dont hear much over the three inch flowmasters.
have had the flex fan for 12 years traded one of my chebby buddies for it his flex fan wouldnt clear the motor he had shoved in his car, my stock fan did. always gave him heck that it took ford parts to get his chebby workin.
I have a flex fan, it makes no noise, but if you do a lot of work under the hood you will regret it. They are very sharp and I have the scars to prove it. The only reason I went with one is because the powdercoat on the fan will not chip off like regular spray can.
I installed a 302 in place of a 300, and didn't change the radiator. Only two cubes shouldn't make a difference. Problem was, I installed a flex fan on the 302. I was constantly overheating in the wonderful traffic we have around here during rush hour. I installed the old 4 blade steel fan, that looked like it was from the stone age. Guess what? No more overheating. I finally painted that old fan, and it's still on the truck. Anybody want a free flex fan?
Yrs ago my stainless steel flex fan make so much noise, I took it off and put back on the stock clutch fan. Those fans do a good job moving air at idle speeds. I seen alot of guys put fans on backwords, so watch what your doing. You may even notice that flex fan use alittle more gas to. I may soon go back to a electric fans. Wow that 91 octane is getting pretty high in San Jose ca. My 2 cents

I had my '67 250 w/ both fans, and I think the flex fan gave me better performance and gas mileage. It would rev up and rev down faster. The stiff fan seemed to hold it back. I got better mileage on the flex fan also.

Aint that the truth. I went to move mine so I could get a wrench on the crank nut and cut myself, first time ever on a fan, on those stainless steel blades. Only reason I bought mine was the stock one came apart while I was driving it and I needed a replacement ASAP.
I have cherry bombs and I noticed the flex fan a lot over the stock set up. No real mileage different in the city, maybe slightly higher on the highway.
I've had a flex fan on for about 10 yrs, no probs. It is supposed to flatten out at highway speed, so it doesn't take much to turn it since you have plenty of air moving thru. If you have a shroud on it, (fan sticking out about 1/3 of the way) it is harder to get cut on it. No noticeable noise, and engine seems to rev quicker with it.
