Brush guards banned?

I have heard recently from several people including a highway patrolman that they are thinking about banning brush gaurds. I do not know if they want to make this a state or federal law. The highway patrolman said they were mainly talking about the full replacement bumpers. The reasoning is that suposedly they are too dangerous and in a side impact with a small car the grill gaurd can kill someone. There have been several lawsuits and such that i have heard of. Has anyone else heard anything similar? i hope they do not do this as im going to put a grill guard on my truck.

I am thinking about building a bumper, grille gaurd for my pickup. I also hope that this will not become a reality.

Hogwash.
I built a big ol bumper for my truck that I named 'The Cattle Crusher'. You can see it here https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=14234&width=0
The way I figure it I have every right to add "armor" to my truck to protect it. Expecialy in my part of Texas. There's deer all over the roads and it's not to uncommon to see cattle cross now and again. When I'm driving to work at 0300 them bugars are all over the place. I'm going to do everything I can to protect my truck should one of them get a suicidal thought, law or no law. If they want it removed they can get a couple deputys out here with a cherry picker and cutting torch and take it off themselvs.
That kind of law wouldnt make it in Texas. There are too many of us in rural areas that use them for practical reasons, not just to look purdy or try to make a sissy truck look tuff.

Your probbably right, that would not go over well here in Tx. I could happen in one of those other states. Someone probably got mad when there littte civic got nailed by a real bumper and sued. I would not believe this story either except i have heard it from a highway patrol. BTW, where in texas are you that cattle roam on the roads?

I hope this isn't going to really happen, especially on a Federal level. I have a Manik & I do not want to remove it. I use my truck off road & also live in an area with a lot of deer. Yes, Buffalo does have wildlife outside the Zoo!
That's a beautiful bumper/guard you have 13MWZ! Did you make it yourself? You're very talented if so!
BTW - I heard that with the brush guard on it may stop the airbags from deploying. Is this true? I am HOPING it is since I'm 5'2" & sit right on top of the steering wheel. My seat is as close as you can get it & I'd rather take my chances in a collision than to have the airbag hit me @ 200mph! I cannot find a dealer/shop willing to disconnect it even if I sign the waiver so short of pulling the fuse I'm stuck. I really don't want to be killed by my airbag! Am I safer now that I have the brush guard??????

There's no way that can be passed, I haven't had the chance top put one on my truck yet. Regardless, it's just another dumb law thought by some loser. Why don't they concentrate on criminals and real crimes. Leave us alone. -BBB

I feel that the deaths that are claimed are not from the grill gaurds.

Infact if they start building cars the they use to be built (the old days) & should be built the death rates for many accidents will be lowered.

But nope, they are not going to do that. They realized that they can build a plastic molded car & sell it for 20 grand.

I own some property outside of Harper (Kerrville/Fredericksburg area) and a few of the roads go through ranches. There's cattle guards in the road when you drive into the ranch and guards when you drive out, but there arent any fences alongside the road while you inside the ranch.
Besides that it seems folks for some reason arent to particular about their fence, Ive seen quite a few with holes in them big enough to drive a truck through. You'd think theyd get patched asap, but I've seen holes open for days on end before they get fixed.

I know exactly some of the roads you're talking about. We've got deer a plenty over in San Marcos. I watched 3 or 4 run through the yard early this morning, and saw a few more a little later when I was out taking my truck for a ride this afternoon.

Out in west texas between Ozona and del rio there is a road like that. One of my dads friends hit a horse in his car and died. Where i live right now i do not need a brush gaurd, but its nice to have when you are goin down a road like this at night. They can come take my brush gaurd off my truck themselves if they want, i'll be shooting at them. ive done a search on the web and found nothing except for a few extremist (the people who want us to drive electric cars and ban trucks) who want to ban them.

You would think that the guard would help spread out the impact area and help dissipate the energy over a larger area.

Always ticks me off...lets not build safer cars...lets regulate laws to make trucks less safe.

well i think it protects the truck and its occupants because the brush gaurd sticks out more, which is more distance to absorb the energy. Its the people in the plastic car though that may get hurt. They should spend more time making cars tougher instead of making trucks less safe
