Bout 3 weeks ago i was drving down Highway 30 Between College Station and Huntsville when a 100 pound deer decied to jump into the road at 60 miles an hour trashed my truck and coused around 300 dollars of frontend work this is the only truck i have owned without a gaurd . Plus a few years ago i was in a wreck were a mustung ran a light and i was in a 250 with a 3 inch case bumper and guard i didnt do much other than sctractch the paint on mine hers well was less tan good. But They could pass that law like the law in texas against lincencse plate frames and front lincense plates .
Banning brush gaurds in Texas.........Not. Yea, every lawyer, judge, and politician has a brush guard on his truck. If those couple of Texas politicians out there with cars tried to ban brush gaurds...the rest of the legal eagles in Texas would crush him and his car. Anyway, I dont really think G.W. is going to let Perry remove his brush guards.
Dhermesc, I be got differ, you need to check out some of the farming supply companies, and people who custom build them Those things are pretty stout. Have a guy at work, put his ole K5 blazer into a deer doin 75 out the front gate (I was behind him) at 1130 at night.....he resprayed the black on the bumper/guard the next day. no other damage, on top of that all the smaller wholes he has fillied in with some reall thick grated metal. works nice. keeps rocks and all off the radiator. He custom build the unit. Also had a guy at work hit one in his 91 bronc, only MINOR damage to the truck itself.....only broke the plastic grille....alot better to replace that and the guard than the grille, the hood, the radiator and supports, both front fenders and any other number of busted truck parts.
In a moderate to severe accident it will do more harm than good to your own vehicle,

In these accident types it won't matter b/c the vehicle would be totaled, guard or no guard. Everyone always says they've seen guards pushed up into the hood and fenders, in a wreck like the truck is screwed anyways. So that point doesn't really matter.... -BBB
i am goin to build or get a huge brush guard if they dont like it and wanna make me change it i will make the cop take it off becouse ill weld and bolt it to the truck unless he's got a torck it aint comin off and if its illeagle ill try it i dont care bout any cops like when i got my 78 grand marquis it had factry catlidic converters and i got pulled over for loud exhoust i said if you wanna complain bout the good i ll make it worse so i cut it off at manifold it never got fixed drove the car for about 6 monthes
Well i'll be darn, this thread came back to life. I've heard a few people say on here that brush guards dont help in an accident and will cause more damage, ect. and I respect their opinions and all but what it all boils down to is people telling you what to do with your vehicle. Take the banning of all aftermarket exhausts in massichusetts for example. There are whackos out there that want this kind of stuff banned because they dont like it. Oh, BTW i heard someone else talking about banning grill guards. (it was a honda dealer trying to sell a civic to some old lady that was worried about being in a wreck, so I think he was full of BS)
A lot of times the grill guard can save you from major damage i you hit a deer or something. It would be crazy for them to do that. They would have hell with the ranchers and the farmersand the people that need them and the people that dot would get in on it 2.
We cannot have political discussions on FTE, so don't swing it to a political discussion...
They don't allow you to keep your plow frame on all year round (in MA atleast) either for the same reason, other cars getting damaged more.
I can't even discuss this kind of stuff, it enrages me too much.
I havn't seen any legitimate source for the whole banning of exhausts thing in MA, but I still don't think it'll be a problem. Cops don't pull you over for it, and I bet most of them don't even know the law exists. It seems they pass a lot of laws and then don't inforce them.
haha, Mustang, I am sure the cops know about it People in SINGAPORE know about it.....people in third world countries in Africa are talking about the stupidity of the law.......regardless..
besides the fact that I cant stand the argument about my truck harming a little civic more w/ a guard on it....
what about the fact that they are telling you what you can and cant do with your vehicles? Is that not infringing on your rights? Your freedom that so many have fought for? I dont know exactly what I will do if more stupid laws like this get passed, especially where I live, I just dont know, but it wont be good, and I wont go quietly into the night. I hope some people get some common sense soon. Who those people are I will notmention, cause we start to touc political lines then No offense anyone.
Well my uncle is a police officer who is very involved in it, knows a lot of people, and he didn't know about it until I told him
Who knows...my guess is some know and some don't. My truck is considered illegal in about 3-4 ways and I've never had an issue over the last year and 1/2. I've been pulled over 3 times but none of them said anything about my lift/tires/exhaust/missing front license plate...
"I've been pulled over 3 times but none of them said anything about my lift/tires/exhaust/missing front license plate..."
You are lucky then. Last time I went in to get a new sticker, they attendant said he could not pass me until I put the stock license plate back on the front (had a nice black Ford plate). Luckily I had it thrown in my center console. Stupid laws...
Well I don't even have the bracket for the bumper to put it on, it's just not there...so it makes it less noticeable than if the bracket was there and no plate. However, I do have trouble getting inspection stickers, I told one guy it was a 4" lift and he said no go on getting a sticker, another guy I told it was a 2.5" lift and he believed me, but denied me because of my clear turn signals (not stock and not DOT). They work fine though, it blinks yellow. Next time I'm going to leave my lights on the whole time so that he can't tell they're clear. I went to another station and they didn't even ask me how much lift I had...they were great.
A friend of mine hit a deer and did $5,000 damage to her truck, then they put a "Deer Guard?" push bumper on it. The next time she hit a deer it only did $900 damage. We live on a river bottom where the deer are pretty thick. From a practical standpoint (Insurance) it doesn't make any sense to try to ban them. But then again the politicans never do anything that makes sense. I'm sure glad I know how to weld.
