2 way or 3 way

I have RF 6.5 3 way 50rms x100w door speakers in all 4 corners. One of my door speakers pooped out and I was going to buy another set of the same but I saw the T-162 RF 2 way 75rms x 150 speakers and may want to go that route. My question is will there much difference in going with the 2 ways up front? What will I lose going this route? I think my amp is 65x4 501x. I really liked the sound of the 3 way and did not want to lose any sound but maybe increase performance a bit.

I can't find the T-162 model number anywhere, and you don't mention a model number for the 3-ways, so I can't comment on them specifically. But don't get caught up in thinking that the 3 ways are "better" than the 2 ways just because of the fact they have an extra driver. They may be better, but it will be because of quality of the manufacture, not because of being a 3 way as opposed to a 2 way. By the same token, the 2 ways are not "better" because they will handle more power. They may be better speakers, but it will be for the same above mentioned reason, quality put into the manufacture. If you decide to go with the 2 ways up front, and they are comparable in quality to the 3 ways, I doubt that you will notice an astounding difference, if any at all. However, if there is some great difference in the speakers, in terms of quality, it will be noticed in the performance, which may or may not be a good thing.

quality 2 ways can sound just as good or better than 3 ways. i have 2way 6.5" infinity refrence 6002i in the doors with pioneer 3 ways 6x9's in the back of my truck. sounds excellent. very good base for no sub and the highs and mids sound excellent. this is running off a pioneer headunit. i just ordered an amp and 12" sub and will be addin gthat in sometime next week.

Awesome replies. I guess I'm confused on one thing. When I run high pass only thru my amp to my 3 ways I get no bass only highs and mids, which is what I want. What sound do you lose with 2 ways instead of 3 ways. My thinking is with the 2 ways I will have no mids, no bass, only highs, right? I don't want to lose my mid section.I hope this makes sense. Thanks again the replies were very helpful. By the way I'm also running to RF H2 12's for lows.

One more question. I was looking at RF 6x8 3 ways instead of the 6.5"s is round better sounding or is it a personal decision based on different ears. Is it a problem running a 4 channel amp with 2 different sets of speakers? Say 6.5 3 ways in rear and 6x8 3 ways up front. And the pairs being different rms and watts. Or is it more balanced with all 4 being the same.

Rockford Fosgate FRC4368 6" x 8" 3-Way
Rockford Fosgate FFC65 6.5 3 way
Rockford Fosgate HPC1206 6.5" 2Way Speaker

These are the choices that are killing me.If anybody has reviews please share.

If I could make a suggestion, why don't you keep your current rear speakers and upgrade the fronts to something really nice like a component set? You have a pretty decent amp that would make them sing. Or eliminate the rears altogether and just run the front components? I don't know what your budget is, but if you intend to buy 2 pairs of 3 ways, in my mind you would be way ahead to invest that amount in the components. If you are more budget conscious, take a look at http://www.millionbuy.com. They have the FFC65 Rockford Fosgates for $36.

my 2 way infinitys through out plenty of bass. the difference between 2 way and 3 way is 2 way has one less driver. you won't be missing out on anything by running 2 ways in front 3 way in back. if you want to get 3way in front and back that will be fine, but im betting you won't notice the difference.

heres the system i have right now excluding the sub and amp i ordered a few days ago.

6.5" infinity reference 6002i 2 way coaxils $99 elsewhere normally but i found a good deal on this site.

http://store.yahoo.com/etronicsnet/inf6002i.html $60 here $12 shipping =$72 cheaper than anywhere else and sound very very good.

pioneer 3-way 6x9 $99

pioneer dh1500 headunit powering it all, can't find it anywhere this year. they stopped selling it last year it was replaced with dh1600 i believe.

What is this system in? If it's the CC, I'd go -w- 6.5" components in plates in the fronts, nice 2 way or 3 way 6x8/5x7" in rear panel's (rear seat blocks some of the sound anyway) and 2-4 10's behind the rear seat (depending on the amount of bass you want). These trucks are fun to build. I've done a few. If you do components or 6.5's in the fronts, make sure you use some type of material to plate the 5x7 hole or sound will suffer.
